Well, in a world where people worship fame and personalities,it is not mind blowing at all to find young people having no sense of role model at all. Today it is more confusing to find someone you Can relate to and would wish your life to follow exactly the same route as a particular person, but the real challenge is on the young men and women.
In Africa where most celebrities and politicians are idolised more than real life savers like teachers, doctors and even police men, the young population which is currently 75% of the continent have a specific "craziness" to certain things they find happiness in . if a youth is not into politics,he or she is into music,if he or she is not into music ,then he or she is into games, football in particular has the majority of youth attention, which by the way is a good thing considering that it inspires talent and gives some sense of identity to the youth; something They can relate and enjoy watching. However there is this other crop of generation into personality rather than their works ,and unfortunately 90% of the time it is never positive inspiration. Take for instance in Kenya, with the current political tension, there has been two opposing sides of the political landscape; The "tangatanga" which is pro Deputy President ( A presidential candidate in 2022 elections) and the "Kieleweke" which is a team allied to kenya's former prime Minister ( Also allegedely,a presidential candidate in 2022). Kenya is a political state characterised by tribal and sycophancy politics, it is the rich that dominate the politics and therefore people cannot seem to imagine of any other candidate out of these two. I don't want to get into the emotional part of politics.
The young men have been brainwashed into thinking that they have to follow the footsteps of leaders in order to get to where they are, therefore in order to get there ,they have to burry their heads under the soil and trust on those they passive as their ideal leaders, therefore leading them into religious following ,they can't stop to think for themselves and continue to emulate what the leaders are doing. They grow up looking up to leaders for their change, development and emancipation. They therefore luck the right role models.
If they get away from politics. the music they listen to which is reaching out to young people is also another salt into the injury inflicted to them by their lack of sight and sound judgment of what is good or not. This extends largely to the rest of the continent, young people idolising celebrities and politicians. It is not a wonder the state of things are still the way the are since the white man left the continent.
